VISualization of Threats and Attacks (VISTA): A Decision Support Tool for Urban Threat Environments

چکیده
Kathleen M. Carley Carnegie Mellon University [email protected] Abstract Urban threat environments, including urban warfare and disaster scenarios, can be characterized as complex systems. Decision making in urban threat environments may be difficult because the underlying system exhibits non-linear and path dependent behavior that humans, unassisted by computers, have trouble understanding and reasoning about. Thus, it may be difficult to predict how the consequences of an action may unfold. VISTA, a computational model is presented as a decision-support tool to be able to help the analyst understand the complexity of an urban threat environment, thereby enabling forecasting of conditions and the exploration of potential consequences of potential actions. A demonstrative use-case is presented along with hypothetical results to illustrate the tool’s potential usefulness. Attention is also paid to the usefulness and challenges of providing an “explanation” of the tool’s results. Initial approaches to the problem are presented.

Naval combat platforms will increasingly operate in littoral environments where they will be exposed to a variety of anti-ship threats. To defend against these threats, a warship will use different means, including hard-kill weapons and soft-kill measures. Efficient allocation and coordination of these combat resources is a complex decision-making problem, where a huge amount of imperfect data ...
متن کاملSTARMINE: a visualization system for cyber attacks
In cyber attack monitoring systems, various types of visualizations, such as geographical visualization, temporal visualization, logical visualization, are being used. Each visualization has its own advantages and disadvantages. Since it is important to analyze the information from different viewpoints and to make a right decision in practical cyber attack monitoring, these visualization should...
متن کاملProcedural Modeling as an Analytical Tool for 3D Survey in Urban Design Assessment
This paper examines procedural modeling as a tool for 3D modeling creation. Procedural modeling historically has been used for 3D visualization of natural features, but with the release of the software CityEngine in 2008, the technology can easily be adopted also in problem domains dealing with urban environments. Then, we will examine and compare two types of modeling, traditional and proc...
متن کاملA Decision Support System for Urban Journey Planning in Multimodal Public Transit Network
The goal of this paper is to develop a Decision Support System (DSS) as a journey planner in complex and large multimodal urban network called Rahyar. Rahyar attempts to identify the most desirable itinerary among all feasible alternatives. The desirability of an itinerary is measured by a disutility function, which is defined as a weighted sum of some criteria. The weight...

Abstract- With the advancement and development of computer network technologies, the way for intruders has become smoother; therefore, to detect threats and attacks, the importance of intrusion detection systems (IDS) as one of the key elements of security is increasing. One of the challenges of intrusion detection systems is managing of the large amount of network traffic features. Removing un...
